This heavy-duty steel soil probe is designed to locate items that are buried beneath the surface. For example, it is great for locating septic tanks or utilities such as water lines.

Features of the Steel Soil Probe

The steel soil probe has distinct features that allow it to perform its duties. Some of these features include: 

  • Size: The soil probe is available in a standard 3/8-inch round rod, a 3/8-inch hexagon rod that is 20% stiffer than the standard round rod, or a 7/16-inch hexagon design that is twice as stiff as the standard round rod.
  • Length: Our Smart Stick steel soil probes come in many lengths (listed below) depending on your needs and preferences. 
  • Ruggedness: The Smart Stick's steel construction ensures rugged use and durability. 
  • Grip: The Smart Stick has a yellow T-style handle to reduce fatigue and give you a comfortable grip. If you need an insulated probe to help protect against buried electricity, use the Mighty Probe. 
  • Tips: There are two tip styles available — standard and ball nose. The tips create a large-diameter hole so the probe shaft won't drag. Ball nose tips are best when dealing with underground lines like coated gas transmission lines and water lines. They are less likely to damage any coatings.

The longer soil probes are useful when the depth of the items you are searching for might be buried deeper.  They are also convenient so that you do not need to bend all the way down to the ground, however, they can be more difficult to start.
