Frequently Asked Questions
A Chisel Popper is used to break loose stuck or seized manhole covers, handhole lids, septic tank lids, and other heavy access covers by creating an initial gap between the cover and frame.
The Chisel Popper is designed to loosen stuck covers by breaking the seal between the cover and frame. In most applications, a manhole hook or lifting hook is then used to safely lift and remove the cover.
Start by inserting the chisel end of the Chisel Popper between the cover and frame. Apply controlled leverage to break the seal created by rust, corrosion, debris, or compression. Once a gap has been created, use a manhole hook or lifting hook to safely remove the cover.
The Chisel Popper is specifically designed for loosening heavy access covers. Its heat-treated chisel tip is engineered to wedge into tight gaps and provide the leverage needed to break loose seized manhole covers, handhole lids, septic tank lids, and utility vault covers more effectively than a typical pry bar. At 36 inches long, the Chisel Popper provides significantly more leverage than a standard pry bar, making it easier to break stubborn covers loose with less effort. The longer handle also allows you to work from a more upright position, helping reduce bending, back strain, and fatigue during repetitive use.
Manhole covers commonly become difficult to remove due to rust, corrosion, dirt buildup, debris, or years of compression between the cover and frame.
The Chisel Popper is ideal for loosening manhole covers, handhole lids, septic tank lids, utility vault covers, storm drain covers, and other heavy access covers.
